All Fanny Win & Lose Quotes Translated (Guilty Gear Petit)
As the title says, this will be a translation of all* Win & Lose quotes involving Fanny from Guilty Petit and Guilty Gear Petit 2.
(*Except for the mirror match quote, if one exists, because it looks like you can’t get a proper mirror match in single player.)
I thought these would be interesting to know about, since they’re pretty much the only characterization Fanny gets outside of the Petit 1 & 2 story modes, plus getting to see a bit of how the other characters react to her.
EDIT: I have since also translated all of the Petit 1 & 2 story modes (yes, all of them)- check those out here.
--
Some more things to note before we get started:
Characters who appear in both Petit 1 and 2 have identical Win and Loss quotes in both games.
The final roster also includes four “GG” characters: GG Sol Badguy, GG May, GG Millia Rage, and GG Ky Kiske.
These four characters are essentially their base form counterparts, but with an alternate moveset inspired by the first Guilty Gear game. They are given different color schemes to differentiate them in gameplay, but they are effectively treated like they are the same characters, even though they have separate quotes and story modes.
The only exception is GG Ky Kiske, who is actually Robo-Ky!
Finally, in terms of status-quo, the characters are roughly plucked from around the Guilty Gear X era - for example Dizzy is part of the Jellyfish Pirates, but Zato-1 hasn’t fully passed away yet (but is still controlled by Eddie.)
Though the stories of these games are really more on the humorous side.
Now, onto the actual translations!

Fanny Win Quotes
(These are the quotes Fanny herself says when defeating these characters.)
Sol Badguy: せんせいは、かんじゃさんに リラックス してもらおうと おもっているからこそ あんなにユーモアにあふれているのです。 The doctor wants to help his patients relax, that's why he's so full of humor.
Ky Kiske: すみません、せのたかくてスマートで ウィットにとんだせかいさいこうのめいい、 ごぞんじないですか? Excuse me? Do you happen to know about the tall, suave, witty, and overall greatest doctor in the entire world?
May: せんせいはえいせいてきにかんがえて、 あたまをそっていらっしゃるのです。 …たぶん。 The doctor shaves his head for hygienic purposes. …I think.
Millia Rage: ねんのため くすり だしておきますね。 I'm giving you some medicine, just in case.
Potemkin: わたしのオデコのほうが かたかったみたいです。 Looks like my forehead is harder.
Kuradoberi Jam: せんせいのようしですか? あしがながくて くびもながい ひかりかがやいているかたですわ。 What does the doctor look like? He has long legs, and a long neck, and he's just a positively radiant person.
Mito Anji: せんせいもあなたのように ステキなめがねをしてらしたのよ。 The doctor was also wearing lovely glasses, just like you.
Johnny: ステキなけんさばきでしたわ、 でも せんせいにはかないませんわね。 That was some fine swordplay, but you still can't hold a candle to the doctor.
Faust: ああっ、せんせい… どこにいってしまわれたのでしょうか? Oh, Doctor… Where could you have gone?
Chipp Zanuff: ぜひ けんけつをおねがいします。 きっと ちが おおすぎるのですわ。 Please consider donating blood. I'm sure you have too much of it.
Axl Low: ごめんなさい、わたしは「はくいのてんし」 わたしのあいは みなさんびょうどうですの。 I'm sorry, but I'm a "white angel"- I love everyone equally.
(Translator's Note: “はくいのてんし/hakui no tenshi”, meaning “white angel” is a non-official term sometimes used for nurses in Japanese, as far as I can tell. As far as I’ve heard, this term might’ve come from the legacy of Florence Nightingale, particularly the 1937 movie based around her life called “The White Angel”. Obviously likening nurses to angels is a thing in English too, but I still wanted to explain the details here.)
Zato-1 (Eddie): あなたぜひ せんせいのオペを うけるべきですわ! You should absolutely get surgery from the doctor!
Testament: せいしんあんていざいを うっておきました。 もうだいじょうぶ! I have given you sedatives. Everything will be fine now!
GG Sol Badguy: せんせいのすばらしさがわからないんですか? おきのどくに。 Don't you know just how wonderful the doctor is? How unfortunate.
GG May: せんせいは「ハゲ」ではありません! 「ボウズ」ですわ!! The doctor is NOT bald! He just shaves!!
GG Millia Rage: あなたのこころのキズ、はやく せんせいに みてもらったほうがいいと おもいますわ。 I think you'd better let the doctor take a look at your broken heart as soon as possible.
GG Ky Kiske (Robo-Ky): あなた すぐにせんせいに みていただいたほうがいいわ! せんせい!!きゅうかんです!! You should go see the doctor right away! Doctor!! It's an emergency!!
--
Fanny Defeated Quotes
(These are the quotes these characters say to Fanny when they defeat her.)
Sol Badguy: かんごふってのは、みな、こうだったか? Are all nurses like this?
Ky Kiske: かんごふ というのもまた からだをはる しごとなのですね。 I suppose being a nurse, too, is quite the physically demanding line of work.
May: ボクもずっと すきなひと さがしてたからわかるよ。そのきもち。 I'm always chasing after someone I like, too. So I get how you feel.
Millia Rage: さいきん えだげが ひどいのよね。 いいくすりしらない? I've been having awful split ends lately. Do you know any remedy for that?
Potemkin: ずいぶん かわった たたかいだったな… That sure was a strange battle…
Kuradoberi Jam: ちょっと、やりすぎたアル…って ねてるアルか? Whoops, I think I overdid it… Wait- Are you asleep?
Mito Anji: 「まてば かいろのひよりあり」ってね がんばって さがしな "Good things come to those who wait", you know. So hang in there and keep on searching, alright?
(Translator's Note: What Anji says in the first line is a Japanese idiom that would literally translate to “waiting for fair weather at a sea route”, in case you’re curious. But it does essentially mean “Good things come to those who can wait.”)
Johnny: とう「ジェリーフィッシュかいぞくだん」では チャーミングなナース ぼしゅうちゅうだ むかしのおとこ わすれさせてやるぜ? The Jellyfish Pirates are looking to hire a charming nurse right now, so what d'ya say? I'll make you forget all about that other guy.
Faust: 「いりょうのみちは いちにちしてならず。」 かんじゃへの あいのみに いきるべきです。 "The path of medicine isn't forged in a day." You should live only for your love towards your patients.
Chipp Zanuff: へんなねーちゃんだな? おれはどこもけがしちゃいねーけどな。 What's with this chick? I wasn't even hurt anywhere.
Axl Low: 「はくいのてんし」はすきだけど もうちょっと おとなしいほうがすきだぜ? I do like "white angels", but… I'd like it even better if you were a bit more gentle, eh?
Zato-1 (Eddie): モウオソイワ コイツトオレハキリハナセンヨ。 YOU ARE TOO LATE. HE AND I CANNOT BE SEPERATED.
Testament: わたしに いりょうなど ひつようない。 I have no need for medical care.
GG Sol Badguy: かんごふがくるとこじゃねぇぜ、ここは。 This is no place for a nurse.
GG May: さいきんのかんごふって ずいぶん つよいのね? Nurses are pretty tough these days, huh?
GG Millia Rage: ボーっとしてるから…。 That's what you get for spacing out…
GG Ky Kiske (Robo-Ky): カカカンゴフ トトトトイウノモモモマタ カカカラダヲハル ㇱ、シゴトナノデスネネ。 I- I- I SUPPOSE BEING A- A- A- A- A NURSE, T-T-TOO, IS QUITE T-T-T-THE PHYSICALLY D-DEMANDING LINE OF WORK-K.

Note
Annon-Guy: Should Guilty Gear StrIVe actually incorporate alternative costumes for the cast like GranBlue Fantasy Versus Rising did for Gran, Djeeta, Narmaya and Zeta, what would you pick for the current roster?
To start off easy, let's use the Missing Link Cast as an example.
Sol: Either Order-Sol or Overture Sol.
Ky: X Series Ky or Overture Ky.
May: X Series May or Xrd May.
Millia: Missing Link Millia or Xrd Millia.
Zato: Classic Zato or an Eddie Skin (probably more Zombie looking like decaying skin and damaged clothing).
Chipp: X Series Chipp or Xrd Chipp.
Potemkin: X Series Potemkin.
Faust: Xrd Faust or Faust wearing Baldhead's old costume while keeping the Paper Bag mask.
Axl Low: Missing Link Axl or X Series Axl.
Baiken: X Series Baiken
Testament: X Series Testament, but more androgynous looking instead of the masculine look they had originally.
There's been a ton of requests on this front from fans to ARC System Works, but the largest portion that makes it difficult is that it's expensive to produce.
Different outfits also don't always talk alternate colors in to consideration as well depending on the game.
Games like Granblue and Soul Calibur are built with alternate outfits in mind, but still, it takes a lot of work.
Even so, fan-made mod skins have been created in some communities, so for Strive in particular at least, things are progressing in that direction.
The broadest answer I can give is "they'll do what they can do".

One (Semi-obscure) Fact About Every Guilty Gear Character
I like trivia. And I like Guilty Gear. Being a series that’s been around for the better part of two decades, it’s only natural there’s some details that are less known about. So I wanted to make a silly little compilation about that, inspired by‘One Obscure Fact About Every Total Drama Character’ by voiceunderthecovers on Youtube.
As the title suggests, I also specifically did my best to pull out facts that may be less known even to fans of the series, so ideally there’s no‘Sol is based on Freddie Mercury’-tier stuff here. I tried to find something interesting for everyone!
Characters are listed in order of their first playable games
Missing Link
Sol Badguy- Sol was originally meant to be voiced by actor Koichi Yamadera rather than developer Daisuke Ishiwatari, but given the developer's budget at the time, he would have been too expensive to afford
Ky Kiske- While Ky has been consistently voiced by Takeshi Kusao for the entire series' run in Japanese, he has been given a different voice actor for every dubbed game for both the English and Korean versions. This means that Ky has had seven official voice actors in total, making him among the highest of the cast alongside Testament
May- May is one of only a few characters in the series to have a tattoo, and only one of two where it is not implied or indicated to be magical in some way, alongside Potemkin's barcode
Potemkin- Several of Potemkin's moves across games reference Hinduism. Strive's 'Garuda Impact' is named after a birdlike demigod that acts as a mount for Vishnu, while Xrd SIGN's 'Trishula' is named for a divine trident-like weapon wielded by the god Shiva
Chipp Zanuff- According to prototype and side materials, Chipp is 22 years old as of Missing Link.
Faust- Possibly to go along with his nature of being a doctor with the desire to treat anyone he comes across, Faust's blood type is O, the universal donor
Axl Low- Axl claims the specific date he desired to return to was May 14, 1998. This is the same date that Missing Link was released in Japan
Millia Rage- According to her Xrd SIGN story mode, Millia's favorite flower is the Easter Lily
Zato-1- Based on his abduction dialogue in Strive, Zato believes in aliens
Kliff Undersn- Despite being removed from the Wii version of XX Accent Core, along with Justice, both their names and endings remain in the game's code. They also both contain original art that had never been used up to that point
Testament- The twin demons that Testament summons in Strive are the same singular familiar they possessed in prior games, simply named‘Succubus,’possibly split into two entities similarly to Ramlethal's familiar Lucifero
Justice- In Missing Link, Justice was voiced by Arc System employee Takuya Morito, who also voiced Chipp
Baiken- Baiken was initially a difficult character to include in the series, as due to being an amputee, it brought up issues with compliance standards at the time
X
Anji Mito- one of his aliases, Hirasawa, was actually planned to be his name during the start of X's development
Venom- During the winpose where he spins his cue, it is able to interact with any remaining balls that are still set up nearby
Johnny- Johnny is implied to have a close history with Gig, the main antagonist of the DS spinoff game Guilty Gear Dust Strikers
Jam Kuradoberi- In Blazblue, Litchi Faye-Ling's theme 'Oriental Flower' is a remix of her X theme, 'Babel Nose'
Dizzy- In the Guilty Gear XX Burst Encyclopedia, full-bodied sketch concepts exist for her wing entities, Necro and Undine. It is unknown currently if the designs were ever meant to be implemented into the game or if they were simply unused concepts
XX
Bridget- Bridget’s usage of a yo-yo as a weapon was inspired by a world-class yo-yoer that Daisuke Ishiwatari knew during the development of XX
Slayer- In SIGN, Slayer is shown to be able to control his limbs even after being severed
Zappa- In his Accent Core character art, Zappa is drawn with six fingers on his right hand. This has never appeared before or since, and is likely just an error. However, in some circles, six fingered-hands are viewed as spiritually significant
I-no- Her main guitar weapon, 'Marlene,' closely resembles the real-life Starplayer TV model manufactured by German company Duesenberg. One of her design inspirations, Sheena Ringo, owned a similar guitar, which she referred to as 'Dietrich.' Collectively, both may be a reference to German actress Marlene Dietrich
Robo-Ky- In #Reload, Robo-Ky is unique in that he has two separate standard match themes, with a day version and a night version depending on what round is occurring
Overture
Sin Kiske- In all of his playable appearances, Sin has never been depicted wearing socks
Izuna- Despite often being assumed to be a kitsune due to his foxlike ears, it is implied through his story in the Overture Original Material Collection that Izuna is actually a tsukumogami made from a hairpin
Dr. Paradigm- Prior to Strive bringing back several actors from SIGN, Paradigm was the only character to have a consistent dub voice, retaining the same actor in SIGN that he did in Overture
Raven- The portraits used for his non-playable appearance in XX are traced from the illustrations used in the side novel Lightning the Argent
Xrd
Bedman- He shares his voice actor with the character Marth from the Fire Emblem series in both his original Japanese and English dub voices, Hikaru Midorikawa and Yuri Lowenthal respectively
Ramlethal Valentine- Ramlethal is the only Xrd Valentine to not be associated with a holiday
Elphelt Valentine- Elphelt is the only playable female character depicted wearing earrings. There are more playable men in Guilty Gear that wear them than women.
Leo Whitefang- The PS3 console version of Xrd SIGN contains unused prototype art for an alternative version of Leo's character portrait
Jack-O Valentine- Similarly to Elphelt and Ramlethal, Jack-O is mechanically unusual as a character, in her case due to her servant-summoning mechanic. It is often believed that this is a reference to the tower-defense style gameplay of Overture, where the original Valentine appeared.
Kum Haehyun- Haehyun only speaks with her own voice during her outro animation. All of her other dialogue is spoken through her mech
Answer- Possibly as a way of properly proportioning the third lens of his glasses, Answer's model contains a second nose above the first. This was left in place and simply made invisible rather than be removed in the final version
STRIVE
Nagoriyuki- Though he was teased in the very first trailer for Guilty Gear Strive at EVO 2019, he remained unnamed for almost a year until his official trailer was released along with Leo’s in July 2020
Giovanna- Despite it being her debut game, across the entire script of Strive's story mode, Giovanna only has 22 lines of spoken dialogue, totaling 157 words overall. For reference, Sol speaks more than that during his first 10 lines
Goldlewis Dickinson- Along with Bridget, Delilah, and the Valentines, Goldlewis is one of the few characters who canonically has a sibling
Happy Chaos- In Baiken's Strive DLC trailer, an error occurs near the beginning where during a brief pan along the character's name, a trait consistent along all of the Seaon 1 DLC trailers, it erroneously reads as 'Happy Chaos' rather than 'Baiken.' It is unknown how this mistake occurred or made it to the final version, though it was fixed by the next installment, as Testament's trailer lacks this error
Delilah- Her English voice actor, Jessica DiCicco, voiced another adolescent telekinetic, Franke Athens, in the cult classic game Psychonauts
That Man- With his full name being given as Asuka R. Kreutz, he is one of only two characters to be given a middle initial, alongside Bedman
#i spent way too much time on this#I'm not sure how I feel#I'm just hoping to god I didn't fuck up on a bunch of these#I tried to do my research#guilty gear#everyone#OP back on her bullshit

Porsche 911 Turbo S: 3rd Place – 2017 Motor Trend Best Driver’s Car
Long the performance flagship of the Porsche 911 line, the Turbo S adds a healthy dose of crazy. Rather than mess with success, this 991.2 iteration tackles the only criticism of the previous Turbo S: It wasn’t wild enough. Some will feel even this version is too sterile; they’re nuts. Porsche fitted two new variable-geometry turbos to the 3.8-liter flat-six engine, which now conjures 580 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque—or 553 lb-ft in temporary overboost. An anti-lag system keeps the throttle open but cuts the fuel during shifts to keep air flowing. Porsche’s PDK dual-clutch automatic transaxle remains, as do the all-wheel-drive system, electronically adjustable shock absorbers, carbon-ceramic brakes, front splitter, and rear wing. A new Sport Response button gives you 20 seconds of on-demand sharper throttle response, and a new rear-wheel steering system sharpens the handling. It’sBest Driver’s Car week! Don’t miss the incredible story ofhow we chose the 2017 Best Driver’s Carright here, and stay tuned for the World’s Greatest Drag Race, coming soon. The result is the hardest-launching car we’ve ever tested, at 1.26 g of horizontal force. Tesla? Nope. Demon? Nuh-uh. From a stop, this 911 will dust a Bugatti Veyron to 60 mph—just 2.5 seconds. The quarter mile flashes past in a stunning 10.6 seconds, at which point you’ll be traveling at 129.6 mph and pulling hard. It pulls hard in corners, too, registering 1.05 average g on the skidpad and 0.95 average g during a brief 22.9-second figure-eight lap. Stopping the 3,557-pound missile from 60 mph takes only 92 feet. We Say “My litmus test for whether a car has a shot at taking the BDC crown is what I’m doing with my head and shoulders when driving. If I’m cocking my head and leaning into the turns along with the vehicle, I am in sync with my steed. We are one; the man-machine interface is engaged, the singularity has occurred. It happened with the winning McLaren 570S last year. “I’m doing that head tilting, lean in thing whilst carving the canyons in the Turbo S. It is nearly the complete package. So fast and completely unflappable. It’s really hard to find a flaw here. Just so fast. Smooth. Lovely to hear the wastegates dump as you lift throttle and the beats of silence between gearshifts. But yes, a more thrilling sound from the back would be appreciated. Unbelievably fast. It is really a focused tool intended for one purpose: going very fast.” – Ed Loh Read about other 2017 Best Driver’s Car contenders: Ferrari 488 GTB Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Porsche 718 Cayman S Lexus LC 500 Mercedes-AMG GT R Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Aston Martin DB11 Nissan GT-R NISMO Mazda MX-5 Miata RF McLaren 570GT “Goose bumps—it’s so easy to handle. Steering is stiff, but it gives you exactly the kind of feedback that you want to feel on a road like this. The sound coming from the engine is superb. Suspension is rigid but comfortable. I felt the confidence to go faster on the corners and push for more. The 911 stands out not only for its handsome looks, but also for that great feeling of confidence that it delivers when you drive on windy roads.” – Miguel Cortina “So, so, so capable on 198. But the trade-off of having such a highly capable car is that it’s quite a bore to drive in normal situations, which is likely how the 911 Turbo will be driven 91.1 percent of the time. It’s really boring on the road. But again, great car to drive hard.” – Erick Ayapana “To me, this is the perfect driver’s car, in that you can do it all: drive for hours and hours on an interstate, then suddenly twist a dial to sport plus, put the hammer down, and the 911 leaps to life, assured, forceful, and pragmatically intense. It is so composed, so nailed down, so very fast, and so full of grip. There is never a hint that something might go awry. It squirts out of the apex and fills you with so much confidence. If you carry too much speed into a corner, lay into the brakes through that entry portion of the curve, and the 911 just tucks in and says, ‘Yeah sure, we got this.’” – Mark Rechtin “My god it’s so capable and so easy. The engine almost feels lazy while piling on the speed. It’s really deceptive how powerful it truly is even at low rpm. It’s amazing how much confidence this car gives a driver. Not just the brakes, but the steering and the stability. The car shrinks around you and becomes an extension of you. I’m looking for a complaint, and I can’t find one.” – Chris Walton “There’s a reason this car is at the top of the rankings in any competition. The 911 Turbo S is so amazingly competent on every level—without having any visible compromises—that it’s easy to forget how high its limits are. Right out of the box, the 911 Turbo S lets you drive as fast as you dare, brake as hard as you can, and turn as much as you wish. It doesn’t just inspire confidence … it inspires a relationship with the driver.” – Derek Powell Randy Says “Yeah, the 911 Turbo S was super great, but it almost seemed a little bit unsatisfying. Somehow? This 991.2 has so much more torque than the last GT3s, any GT3 I ever drove. And it’s just so satisfying to drive. The balance under power is amazing to me. Knowing how little weight is on those tires especially when you’re under about 0.9 g acceleration in second gear, and it doesn’t push under power. This car seems more rewarding to drive to me, and it really … it blows away some great cars. I guess ‘cause it’s easy? But it’s rewardingly easy. It’s not boring; it’s satisfying. It just makes me feel like I could drive better than I really can. I literally said that to myself, driving off of turn 11. “In the slower corners, when the revs are down, there’s no sense of lag whatsoever. I love the way it’ll dig off the corner without understeer. I could go to the power really early, and I’d just know that a lot of cars would want to understeer under this condition. And it doesn’t, it just comes on. Just fascinatingly, thrillingly good. “You have to be just a wee bit careful about entry oversteer. Don’t leave that weight on the nose for too long on a high speed corner. It takes a real specific combination of great on-the-nose, aggressive turn-in, and off throttle to bring the tail out. A couple of times when it came out it still was not scary. It was a pleasant experience. Back to the power, and there you go. I’m just really, really impressed. “With PDKs you’re just wasting your time shifting manually. It might be fun just to do it for the fun of it, but it’s completely unnecessary to shift yourself. The brakes held up completely; even the tires held up. I mean, the loads, what they’re going through is mind-bending. The amount of speed, the amount of braking, and how hard those tires are worked—they still hold up. The car retains its balance. I just seem to be able to repeat my braking performance. I was in so deep a couple times halfway through the brakes I thought maybe I wouldn’t make this. But then it would slow down enough and ride into the apex, and away we’d go. It’s a nice, firm pedal, and that means the braking performance is repeatable. It also made me push it harder. “I don’t feel the rear-steer except that, maybe, it’s my guess that it’s one of the ways they keep the front traction in the middle of the corner when it really shouldn’t have any, but the car responds to the steering wheel in the middle of the corner. Low-speed, high-speed, anything you want. Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk: The legend gets a makeover
Text and Pics By Michael Hozjan
The Jeep brand is associated more with off-roading than any other nameplate and even yours truly feels more confident taking a “Jeep” off the beaten path than most other vehicles, even if that path is the south 40 on my farm. So it should come as no surprise that the resurrected Cherokee, has sold over 130,000 units since its debut in 2013. Even my life long friend and ex business partner surrendered his CRV and rushed to the nearest Jeep dealer to plunk down his deposit on the first gen Cherokee Limited. And who could blame him, in a sea of cookie cutter mid-size sport utes, the Cherokee is handsome and clearly stands alone.
The closest my friend gets to taking his Cherokee off the pavement is when he drives down my gravel road, and I suspect that most Cherokee owners will never see much more either. But that doesn’t mean you can’t look the part. Enter the Trailhawk, taking the boulevardier out of the equation, at least style wise. The Cherokee buyer now has eight trim levels to choose from starting with the front-wheel-drive Sport trim at $27,021. Yes that’s right kiddies the Cherokee is offered in front drive only! Matter of fact the Trailhawk and a more optioned Trailhawk Elite are the only two of the eight trim levels NOT offered in front wheel drive. The Trailhawk’s entry price is $35,054 for the V6 powered version.
The Trailhawk got a lot of admiring looks at this year’s Mopar show in Valleyfield, QC
For its sixth year the Cherokee got a well-needed refresh. Jeep’s trademark seven bar grille has been squared off, giving it tougher, more aggressive look, further distinguishing it from the competition. Flanking the grill are bi-LED headlamps and LED fog lamps. The new Jeep has shed some weight to aid in fuel consumption, including a lighter power tailgate.
Adding to Trailhawk’s rugged image is a higher ride height for increased ground clearance. Should you decide to go off the beaten path there are skid plates fore and aft.
Thankfully not too much has changed in the Cherokee’s cabin. The leather seats are comfortable and supportive. My buddy’s six year old leather seats show no signs of wear, a testament to Jeep’s quality materials. My tester came with the heated/ventilated power buckets embroidered with the Trailhawk logo…in case I forgot what I was driving. The accented red stitching on the Trailhawk’s dash and seats are a nice touch. Unlike some higher priced competitors, there are plenty of soft-touch materials. Out back the cargo bay has been widened three inches. I squeezed in a cut down version of my show tent for the annual Mopar show in Valleyfield, Quebec. Thanks to the wider bay I was able to now get my tables to fit. Still, the Cherokee’s 54.7 cu.ft. of useable cargo capacity falls short of many of its competitors.
Regular readers know that I admire FCA’s Uconnect infotainment system and the Cherokee continues in the tradition for ease of use with a larger 7-inch screen (the 8.4 inch is standard on the Trailhawk). I wish other manufacturers would take FCA’s lead and uncomplicate their systems.
There are two USB ports up front along with a power outlet. Back seat passengers get twin USB ports as well as a 115-volt household three-prong outlet.
My firecracker red came with the optional dual pane sun roof ($1,595), the 9-speaker Alpine sound system with trunk-mounted subwoofer ($450), the towing package added another $595 to the final tally. Also added was the upgraded infotainment system with nav, xm radio, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth compatibility ($920). A very appreciated item was the full-size spare, thank you FCA.
Yeas kiddies, that’s a full-size spare!
Unlike with some other manufacturers, the blind spot monitoring with rear cross path assist and rear park assist is an $895 option and if you ask me it’s nice to see that I’m not being forced to pay for it if I don’t need it.
Under the hood the Cherokee offers three engine options; the old standbys, the base 180 horse, 2.4L Tigershark four cylinder and optional 271 horse, 3.2L Pentastar V6 remain. New to the lineup is a 270 horsepower 2.0L turbocharged in line four cylinder that pumps out an impressive 295 lb.ft. of torque. (Stay tuned for more on this mill) The 2.0L is rated to pull 4,000 lbs. vs. the 2.4’s 2,000 pound capacity and the V6’s 4,500 lbs. Depending on trim model the Cherokee also offers you three different three different 4 x 4 systems. The Trailhawk came with the Active Drive II, which has two speed transfer unit with a low mode that locks the front and rear axle for negotiating out of the deep stuff. Regardless of engine choice, the sole transmission is the 9-speed automatic. And even though I managed to eak out a very respectable 8.2L of the good stuff for every 100 clicks, I still wish we had the option of a manual transmission. Come on guys it’s supposed to be an off-roader!
I was completely surprised with the Trailhawk’s road manners, unlike some SUVs that get clumsy when you add an off road package the Trailhawk kept its composure on highway maneuvers just as well as its sibling. The Firestone tires too proved to be quite for an off-road tire.
Having a truck in the driveway that I can take into the field to check on the crops and then turn around and head out for a night on the town and not feel out of place, and get me there safely, well what more can you ask for. Yes the cargo bay is on the small side despite its expansion for my use, but what it looses in cargo space it gains in comfort.
Price as tested: $41,240*
*Includes destination charge

2020 BMW S1000RR First Ride

The front straightaway at Circuito Estoril is more than a half mile long. Usually, this is where you look forward to getting some rest. Put the last few corners behind you, loosen your grip, and breathe before sweating it out for another lap. On the 2020 BMW S1000RR, however, I’m not tired enough to need a rest; this hustle has become easier.
When exiting Estoril’s final third-gear right hander, the refinements to the S1000RR’s ride-by-wire electronic suite prove themselves, the TC ushering me effortlessly off the corner with minimal wheelspin and wheelie control hanging the front wheel only inches above the pavement—no more, no less. Aided by seamless full-throttle gear changes, its linear power delivery makes the BMW deceptively fast. RPMs climb quickly to a 14,600-rpm redline, prompting higher gear and more speed. Tucked cozily behind the windscreen, the TFT dashboard displays 170 mph in top gear, but feels no more than 125 mph.
Four downshifts happen seamlessly and in quick succession thanks to BMW’s auto-blip downshifter and slipper clutch, while a firm two-finger squeeze on the brake lever sheds speed for turn 1. Only a handful of times did ABS intervene, effectively keeping the chassis composed and the rear wheel from lifting off the ground under serious braking. Confidence is at an all-time high for BMW. Minimal handlebar input decks the 426-pound fully fueled S1000RR to the right, where it carves a tight line through Estoril’s second-gear first corner. All with seemingly little effort.
The user-friendliness of the all-new S1000RR is a testament to BMW Motorrad’s hard work over the course of a 46-month developmental period. The German manufacturer didn’t want just a faster literbike, it wanted one that’s lighter and easier to ride.
Every element of the S1000RR was put on a diet, resulting in a total claimed weight loss of 25 pounds in comparison to the outgoing model. BMW says a large portion of the weight savings is found in the RR’s 999cc inline-four powerplant; much thanks to a significantly lighter crankshaft, hollow-bore titanium valves, and various other bits. The crankshaft alone saves more than 3.5 pounds dramatically reducing the rotating mass of the engine, promoting greater side-to-side agility. A smoother power curve is welcomed via the BMW ShiftCam Technology, which varies the intake valve timing at 9,000 rpm to ensure optimum power on both ends of the rpm spectrum. The result is a significant increase in low-to-midrange torque, while extracting a few more horses at peak power, bringing maximum output to a claimed 205 hp at 13,500 rpm.
Harnessing the RR’s grunt is the ride-by-wire electronic rider aid package, which now sees four selectable riding modes—Rain, Road, Dynamic, and Race—in standard trim. Each ride mode provides a combination of factory presets. Throttle response, traction control, wheelie control, engine-braking, semi-active suspension, and ABS parameters are specifically tailored for various modes of riding, but are not independently adjustable of one another. What you see on the 6.5-inch TFT dash is what you get. That’s unless you upgrade the S1000RR with BMW’s premium Race or M packages, which unlock additional race modes. Within the race modes, parameters are totally customizable, meaning you can fine-tune settings to your liking.
An all-new narrower and lighter chassis improves rideability as well, with advancements focused on agility. The highlight of the new chassis is an underslung swingarm inspired by BMW’s World Superbike endeavors. The swingarm repositions the rear shock further away from the engine, lessening the negative effects of heat buildup on the shock’s damping, and decreasing the amount of lateral force from the swingarm pivot to the axle point. The decreased force helps in a motorcycle’s ability to steer under acceleration, like in Estoril’s third-gear Parabolica.
The motorcycle I tested came equipped with BMW’s M Package—priced at an additional $3,700 on top of the base model’s $16,995 MSRP—which is highlighted by fully adjustable Race Pro riding modes, carbon-fiber wheels derived from the ultra-exotic HP4 Race, a lightweight battery, and premium “Motorsport” livery. In total, the M package shaves another 7.7 pounds, bringing weight down to 426 pounds fully fueled. The day began with two 15-minute sessions with OEM-fitted Bridgestone S21 tires, followed by a trio of outings on Bridgestone V02 slick race rubber.
By the end of pit lane, I felt at home with the revised rider triangle. A slightly taller seat height puts the rider further atop and more in control of the motorcycle, while graciously offering more legroom and allowing for more effective input through the feet that’s needed in side-to-side transitions. Wider handlebars increase leverage without inducing uncomfortable wrist pressure under braking, and the tank offers a good point of contact to lock your knees in. Look where you want to go, apply pressure to the footpegs and handlebars, and the S1000RR will follow.
Chassis stability was exceptional, exhibiting total composure from corner entry to exit. Gone is the rear-end weave that hindered the predecessor’s ability to perform well in areas of hard acceleration, and in its place comes a physical relief for the rider as the throttle is opened. The new chassis provides a sure-footed feel in almost every area of the racetrack, but still lacks a confidence-inspiring feedback during corner entry. Throughout the day, I fettled with the Marzocchi fork’s DDC settings, but only found a degree of solution to the issue when the V02 race slicks were spooned on for the afternoon sessions. I assume a lighter fork spring would use more suspension travel, which could create more feel in the stroke at corner tip-in.
Toggling between the three engine-brake settings, I regained some confidence to push the boundaries at corner entry. I chose level 2 of the three engine-brake settings for its ability to help load the front tire under deceleration, without over-slowing the motorcycle prior to the apex. Level 1 offers the least amount of deceleration, making it easy to overshoot the corners or apply an unnervingly amount of brake pressure.
Flicking from knee puck to knee puck is where the updated RR shines. The combination of reduced weight, significantly lower rotating mass crankshaft, and the M Package’s composite wheels destroys these transitions with very little body language. Our muscles thank you, BMW.
Little drama comes from an aggressive corner exit, thanks to a more tractable throttle response and refinements made to the traction and wheelie control systems. Four basic settings of TC are available in Ride Pro modes—Rain, Road, Dynamic, and Race—while each offers 15 total settings of adjustability, with +7 being the most intrusive and -7 being the least. I began my first session on slick tires in Race at the +2 setting, and progressively decreased the level of intrusion throughout the stint via switch gear on the left handlebar. I settled on -3, where the TC system would counteract puckering slides while still allowing the motorcycle to drive forward off the corner. Unlike the previous system, it works with rather than against you, finding a happy medium between acceleration and traction management.
Initial delivery is impressively linear, even in the most aggressive throttle response mapping, with low-end grunt readily available from 5,000 rpm. The revs climb quickly, with a noticeable, yet comfortable hit coming at 11,700 rpm. Level 1 of the RR’s wheelie control system carries the front tire slightly off the ground in a MotoGP-esque manner. Power continues pulling strong until redline, where clutchless upshifts allow the S1000RR to continue accelerating at full steam ahead. Quickshifter delays are vastly improved. The RR’s predecessor was infamous for slamming heads against the windscreen on upshifts, but HP4 Race-inspired settings smoothed acceleration. Seriously fast—truly drama free.
While the precision of the Double R’s updated rider aid suite is downright impressive, navigating through the system’s interface is unintuitive and time consuming. A tricky combination of switch gear and a toggle wheel on the left handlebar is required to scroll through the settings, and the wrong push can send you in the wrong direction. On-the-fly adjustments? You’re limited to TC settings and complete riding mode changes, meaning engine-brake and throttle response settings are out the window. It’s a shame to see the S1000RR’s electronics come so far, only to be a nuisance to adjust.
Regardless of a few rough edges, BMW has achieved making the S1000RR more rider friendly. A more linear power delivery, forgiving chassis, and precise electronics permit a full focus on fast lap times. More speed with less energy, period. The sweat doesn’t bead like it used to.

We Say
“My litmus test for whether a car has a shot at taking the BDC crown is what I’m doing with my head and shoulders when driving.
It is really a focused tool intended for one purpose: going very fast.” – Ed Loh
Read about other 2017 Best Driver’s Car contenders:
Ferrari 488 GTB
Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE
Porsche 718 Cayman S
Lexus LC 500
Mercedes-AMG GT R
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport
Aston Martin DB11
Nissan GT-R NISMO
Mazda MX-5 Miata RF
McLaren 570GT
“Goose bumps—it’s so easy to handle. Steering is stiff, but it gives you exactly the kind of feedback that you want to feel on a road like this. The sound coming from the engine is superb. Suspension is rigid but comfortable. I felt the confidence to go faster on the corners and push for more. The 911 stands out not only for its handsome looks, but also for that great feeling of confidence that it delivers when you drive on windy roads.” – Miguel Cortina
“So, so, so capable on 198. But the trade-off of having such a highly capable car is that it’s quite a bore to drive in normal situations, which is likely how the 911 Turbo will be driven 91.1 percent of the time. It’s really boring on the road. But again, great car to drive hard.” – Erick Ayapana
“To me, this is the perfect driver’s car, in that you can do it all: drive for hours and hours on an interstate, then suddenly twist a dial to sport plus, put the hammer down, and the 911 leaps to life, assured, forceful, and pragmatically intense. It is so composed, so nailed down, so very fast, and so full of grip. There is never a hint that something might go awry. It squirts out of the apex and fills you with so much confidence. If you carry too much speed into a corner, lay into the brakes through that entry portion of the curve, and the 911 just tucks in and says, ‘Yeah sure, we got this.’” – Mark Rechtin
“My god it’s so capable and so easy. The engine almost feels lazy while piling on the speed. It’s really deceptive how powerful it truly is even at low rpm. It’s amazing how much confidence this car gives a driver. Not just the brakes, but the steering and the stability. The car shrinks around you and becomes an extension of you. I’m looking for a complaint, and I can’t find one.” – Chris Walton
“There’s a reason this car is at the top of the rankings in any competition. The 911 Turbo S is so amazingly competent on every level—without having any visible compromises—that it’s easy to forget how high its limits are. Right out of the box, the 911 Turbo S lets you drive as fast as you dare, brake as hard as you can, and turn as much as you wish. It doesn’t just inspire confidence … it inspires a relationship with the driver.” – Derek Powell
Randy Says
“Yeah, the 911 Turbo S was super great, but it almost seemed a little bit unsatisfying.
I think I set my speed record over the corkscrew.
“It’s a real testament to what’s possible with modern technology when you are creating a sports car and you know what you’re doing. It’s an amazing piece of machinery. A living testament to how good a car can be with the stability control off.”

Note
Annon-Guy: We all know that Sol is the main protagonist while Ky is the deuteragonist, but why is the main tritagonist ALWAYS swapped around in the Guilty Gear series? Case in point;
The Missing Link: Doesn't really have one, but I saw Kilff is the tritagonist here.
X, X2 and Accent Core: Dizzy
2 Overture and Xrd Series: Sin and Ramlethal
SrtIVe: Jack-O'
Most of this revolves around the central plots involving Guilty Gear, so it's not so easy to answer it.
But, to sum up events in a short manner:
GG1: It was a "revisit" to the past events via a scheme from the Conclave in an attempt to capture Justice for their own ends. So, of course Kliff couldn't stand idly by. He was trapped and killed by Testament however. The reason it's called the "Missing Link" is because Sol had long been absent from history by that point, and no one expected him to step out of the shadows and kill Justice (whom the world was worried about unsealing to start a fresh war).
GGX: The focus is mostly based on events that happen AFTER the war with Justice and those who survived. The legacy of Justice just happened to fall in Dizzy's hands mostly.
GGXX: The "Midnight Carnival" is the opening "stage" for I-No... who has her own role to play in the history of the Backyard. You could say this part of the story is I-No's playground, but it is also a key facet to past "transgressions" that happened long before Guilty Gear began.
GGXXAC: The "Accentuated Core" of connected events slowly coming together. Those involved are mainly the Postwar Administration Bureau... a group notoriously connected with the Conclave who bears strong connections not just to Justice, but also the Assassins and the Japanese, among many other dark secrets. While I-No is just one part of the problem, she is only the "result" of past sins... the Bureau are also "born from the past sins" born from the Conclave's intentions, but they are still only a small portion of the grander mystery of the dark history of the Crusades.
GG2 Overture: Simply the beginning of a deeper plot. It all began with Valentine, though Sin was involved with those events, Valentine is (despite appearances) the "victim" of this event. She is killed like Justice by Sol Badguy... leaving behind more mystery behind the "culprit" who has yet to be revealed.
Just who is Valentine's "Mother"?
Xrd Sign: The beginning of the End. War is declared by Ramlethal Valentine, the "sister" of the original Valentine... and it is clear that Mother is waging war on humanity... but for what purpose?
Will Ramlethal become the next "victim" at Sol's hands?
But, in a turn of events, the real victim was Ramlethal's Sister: Elphelt Valentine.
She was taken by Mother to become the "Next" incarnation of Justice.
Xrd Revelator: After so much "dark history" has occurred, it is revealed that the Conclave are simply being manipulated by Ariels the Merciless Apocalypse... the Universal Will.
But, Ariels herself reveals an even more sinister "sin": Humans created her. One human in particular, who orchestrated many of these events (including I-No's origins).
Sol, Ky, and even Sin among friends battle to save Elphelt... and the final confrontation with Ariels begins.
Guilty Gear STRIVE: The history of Humans is the history of greed and ambition. That much is made clear by one Happy Chaos.
Greed for War, Greed for Weapons, Greed for Gears, Greed for Humanity, almost like an unchanging LOOP.
The Greed created a Sickness that became I-No. A glitch in the system.
The Greed created Hope for a Better Future: Axl Low.
Hope and Excess... which Ariels despised in Humans... unlimited possibilities.
The Greed created monsters like Bedman and survivors like his Sister Delilah... victims of the war.
Jack-O' was also a "victim". Forced to play a role in the past she never asked for. But even as a Valentine, she had a destiny that was her choice to accept or reject.
Sol however, felt that Destiny is something you break with your own hands. And Asuka R. Kreutz agreed.
The "First Transgressor" turned out to the be the one designated to save the world: The Original Sage, now become Happy Chaos.
They would have to "strive" to break more tragedy from here on out, that is, if they wanted to "save the future".
No more "STEEL Victims" from here on out... if Sol can help it at least.
